Izmir Municipal Square Christmas Lighting Project 2024

Decorations near UNESCO World Heritage-listed structures in the historic Konak square had to comply with strict conservation regulations. The proximity of the Kordon waterfront to the sea required IP68-rated products.

The design was realised using ground poles and temporary structures without any fixings to the historic building facades. Special saltwater-resistant IP68-certified LED systems were used for the seafront installations. The design was shaped to harmonise aesthetically with the heritage sites after receiving conservation board approval.

The project became the most visited spot in Izmir during the Christmas season. The LED reflections along the Kordon featured in the city's tourism promotional materials. The city council evaluation classified the decoration budget as the highest-contributing public expenditure to citizen satisfaction.
